Yoga and Sciatica
Have you been living with sciatica? Ingrid lived with the pain of sciatica for a long time and was ecstatic when, practicing yoga made the episodes of sciatica less and less until they finally went away. Sciatica is caused by compression somewhere along the sciatic nerve. Simple in concept, but not simple in practice – the sciatic nerve is one of the largest nerves in our body. Compression anywhere along the nerve results in the characteristic pain of sciatica. The good news is that a regular yoga practice can help relieve pressure on the sciatic nerve, especially when caused by tightness in the external hip rotator muscles.
Ingrid drew from her experience with sciatica and the writings of Dr. Loren Fishman when she designed Healthy Backs Level 1, choosing poses accessible to everyone to help relieve sciatica.*
Yoga and Fibromyalgia
Have you been struggling to find a solution after being diagnosed with Fibromyalgia? In this class, you will be guided through deep breathing, gentle stretches and strengthening exercises. Since every body is different, Ingrid offers plenty of options to find the right expression of a pose for you.
Ingrid is privileged to have learned from a number of yoga practitioners living with fibromyalgia and designed Healthy Backs Level 1 with them in mind, drawing from their experiences and Dr. Kabat-Zinn’s work on Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, which utilizes techniques such as: Breath Awareness, Body Scan, and Yoga.*
Why Is Finding Back Pain Relief So Complicated?
In today’s world of click-baity, one size fits all solutions, there is a lot of noise about how all our issues are simple. This is not so – life is not simple, so why should we expect the toll life takes on our bodies to be simple or any solution to be simple. Ingrid’s experience was certainly not simple and she had to address the issues caused by her sciatica, scoliosis, general misalignment and weaknesses to overcome chronic back pain.
Nobody here will offer you a one size fits all or quick fix solution. Our bodies employ a complex system to maintain stability in our spine. Ingrid firmly believes that to experience lasting results, you will need to practice yoga regularly and be patient with your body. She will do all she can to encourage you and help you along the way.
During classes, Ingrid will guide you through relaxation, decompression, stretching, and strengthening the complex set of muscles that support our spine. These exercises will, over time, develop our awareness of our spine, improve posture, improve flexibility, relieve stress, and strengthen the muscles that support our spines. so that we have the freedom to participate fully in life.
Without building our awareness of the body, we go through life dull to the sensations of our spinal support muscles and only notice them when we are experiencing back issues.
No experience necessary – everyone is welcome
